In recovery but not working at recovering
My 20 year old son is undergoing treatment for heroin addiction. While he has been sober for 20 days and is in an outpatient treatment program, he continues to have no motivation and show very low frustration tolerance. It is difficult to be around him. This is his first attempt at sobriety after using for 8 months. While I want to support his efforts, frankly I am exhausted. I am working harder at this than he is. Except for rehab in the morning and NA meetings several nights during the week, he does nothing but play video games which fuel his upset. I need help in handling his behavior/attitude/motivation.

While your son is struggling to overcome his addiction and adapt back to everyday life, it sounds like you are also having a very hard time. Taking care of yourself is not to be taken lightly. Please check out our Taking Care of Yourself Checklist (http://timetogethelp.drugfree.org/make-plan), which can offer resources for your own well-being and how you can help your son.
