You Are Special

There are many shared experiences of those who struggle with addiction. Prominent among them is the fear that we are not good enough and that others will find this out about us. The suffering this causes in our soul lies at the root of our substance abuse as we seek to ameliorate the pain with drugs and alcohol.

Recovery however, frees us from this bondage of ourselves and teaches us that no matter who we are or what our past has been we possess a unique place in this world. A place that is composed of love, compassion and commitment to ourselves and to others; a place that transcends time and space.

And the testament to that timeless place comes from Jacob M. Braude who tells us "that whoever you are, there is some person who thinks you are incredibly special.

There is some work that will never be done if you don't do it.

There is someone who would miss you if you were gone.

And there is a place that you alone can fill."

Thanks again for the wonderful lesson. You always teach me something I should understand about how my son may feel, or something we should both learn.
